Going in to Kaloki Love, I had never played any of the Kaloki games. I’m not a huge fan of management style games, but I will admit I had a lot of fun playing this one. This is Ninja Bee’s second Kaloki game on the iPhone. The first, Kaloki Adventures received decent reviews and from what I can tell they took the “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” approach.
If you’re like me and haven’t played Kaloki, it is a space station management game. You basically build different types of space ports to keep the approaching ships happy. Ships are lined up across the bottom of the screen and you click each one to see what they need. Some ships offer upgrades to your different space ports. Now you may be wondering what the “Love” in the title means, well the ships that line up each contain a different lady that you are trying to keep pleased.
The graphics are quite good for an iPhone game. Rotating around the space station to identify open nodes to build ports is smooth and fluent. I did run in to a few stutters when there were a lot of things going on at once, but it’s to be expected from a cell phone game.

My only issue with the game was the controls. Adding space ports to the space station is simple enough, but my issue was with going through some of the menus. I have large fingers and I couldn’t get in to some of the menus easily. I eventually figured out I needed to use my pinkie finger to access the tiny menus I was having trouble with.
All in all, for my first foray in to the Kaloki game scene, I honestly had a good time with this. Smooth game play and nice graphics go a long way in an iPhone game. A few stuttering issues and some small menus for larger hands detract somewhat from the overall experience, but at $.99 you can’t really go wrong with this one. As for a normal score, I’d give it a 4 out of 5.
