This week in Xbox Live Arcade –
Sam and Max return to the XBLA with Beyond Time and Space. Don’t let the 1600 MSP price point scare you. This is actually 5 different episodes all rolled up into what is known as Season 2. It has all the witty dialog and puzzle solving you’ve come to expect from a game from Telltale Games. If you’re a fan of the this genre of games Sam and Max shouldn’t disappoint.
Not only is it a good game featuring a hilarious giant robot who speaks in lyrics from bad pop songs, you also get 5 shorter games for the price of 320 MSP each. However, the control scheme just didn’t seem to quite click with me. I definitely prefer to be able to control the character and use a button to cycle through selectable objects. Moving the cursor around and not the character without a mouse seems clunky. Still I suppose you could get used to it since you are mostly looking around and thinking anyway, but the W&G controls worked a lot better. Since I’m nitpicking a little, I’ll throw in that I would have also chosen the Hef looking Satan.
The video is a little longer this time around with less of my usual pop-ups in the video because I just wanted to give a view of the humor and gameplay. There isn’t much to point out because the game relies on its story and puzzle solving aspects to make up the gameplay content. Give it a shot and let us know what you think? Also don’t forget to check out Season One.
