The Breakdown
Consume as many people as possible while killing Hunters and avoid being seen by Blackwatch.
Breaking Points
The game revolves a character named Alex Mercer; codename Zeus. He wakes up in a Morgue and doesn’t remember what happened to him. Just like out of a movie, the Manhattan population is infected! In order to regain his memory he must “consume” others who had a part of this viral infection. So is he a villain or a superhero?Read
Prototype has some resemblance to Crackdown as far as super-jumping and picking up cars with your super-human powers. The game starts off with him roaming around the streets of Manhattan on the 18th day of infection and killing everyone in sight- and then it cuts off to day one of infection.
You play as Alex Mercer as you run around the city of Manhattan completing missions, avoid being seen by Blackwatch and killing the infected. You have the ability to run across and up sky scrapers, super jump, air glide and shape shift to people you have consumed. And as you complete more missions you gain more powers and upgrades that you can “purchase” with experience points.
The first power you obtain are claws which makes it easier to combat hunters and the moves are pretty easy…in the beginning. Overall the moves in this game are button mashing for combos with the X and Y
buttons being your main source. As you upgrade your powers and learn more special moves, it starts to get a little trickier and really hard to remember. In the game you are constantly being chased by either Hunters or Blackwatch- so it becomes difficult t to remember all your special moves and then to perform the special moves. If you’re like me, you might find yourself just pressing X and Y 90% of the game while in combat.
Aside from the missions you must complete to beat the game, there are side missions you can do to gain more experience points and to unlock upgrades for Alex. There are also landmarks which you can collect throughout the city of Manhattan to gain experience points as well as unlock an Acheivement.
Tips & Tricks
- Consume as many people as you get since it will help you regain health
- Upgrade your abilities to make yourself run faster and jump further- trust me, you will need it
- Upgrade stealth consume- it will be valuable later in the game and easier if you want to complete side missions
- Always be on the move to avoid swarms of Hunters- especially if you have been spotted by Blackwatch
My Thoughts
If you do not like fast-paced games- this is not the game for you. If you have certain morals such as killing actual people rather than a monster, alien or covenant then this is really not the game for you.
I was not a big fan of Crackdown
so I was skeptical of getting this game. But the game turned out to be awesome! I played the game on normal difficulty and that was not too bad in the beginning of the game, but if the difficulty were any higher I would definitely struggle later on in the game. On normal difficulty there were many times I wanted to throw my controller through my screen because it took me more than three times to complete a mission. As the infection spreads it gets more difficult to complete missions because of the swarms of Hunters coming at you and there is more police force in Manhattan on and off the ground. Because how complex it gets later on in the game I suggest the upgrades mentioned above.
The game had a great story and a nice twist in it that throws everyone a curve ball. I must admit, after awhile the missions in the game start to become redundant- consume an officer, kill the officers and hunters and run away from the squad team. Being a New Yorker, I think they did an amazing job on the graphics in Manhattan and the accuracy of the buildings and street names; I felt right at home.
