Hello Kitty Saves Lives

Have you been looking for a good reason to join Hello Kitty Online?  Well now you have a good reason to. As you know, Haiti just had a horrible earthquake that claimed the lives of millions and left the survivors homeless and injured. Well now this amazing game is doing an amazing thing.

Hello Kitty Online will have “Food for Friends 2.”  This event lasts from January 21-30, 2010.  When you play you earn donation points. The donation points will be added up and real money will be sent to Doctors Without Borders for aid in Haiti. This sounds like a great charity event, Hello Kitty and helping people? That’s the best combination EVER!

Well now you have a reason to join Hello Kitty Online. And remember to tell your friends your doing this not only because this game rocks, but to help survivors in Haiti.

But seriously, earthquakes stink so lets help the survivors of Haiti out by doing what we do best. By that of course I mean palying Hello Kitty Online.

SURPRISE, NEW DS!!!

dsixleuropromoWell, I don’t know if you’ve heard or not but there’s a new DS, it’s called the DSi XL. It’s going to be the fourth in the DS family. I find it funny that they decide to add just a little piece of hardware, and make a new DS. This new DS will be releasing in Europe on the 5th March 2010. Wonder what’s so great? While, I’ll tell you the facts and you decide if it’s all that great.

Now this definitely isn’t your average DS. It has a much BIGGER difference than just two little cameras. This thing has two 4.2 inch screens. No that’s not a typo, it’s really that big. In fact that’s 93% bigger than the DS Lite’s screens. But yes, it does have a camera. Now I wonder if it’ll have a Gameboy Advance slot so you can play Guitar Hero.

The DSi XL still has the DSi browser so you can surf the web through your DS. It also comes with some free pre downloaded stuff like Dictionary 6 in 1. The new DS will still have everything that the DSi had. The new DS comes in two colours, wine red and dark brown with a glossy sheen on top and matt finish on the underside. It will also have a bigger stylus.

So, what do you think? I don’t really see the point. These days it’s all about making things smaller, unless your talking about TVs. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see this one.

The Blanket Project

allison Living in a cold climate effects causes more then chilly fingers and noses for a lot of people, and together we can help. There are tons of shelters in which you can donate your time and money but me and our friend and my fellow Microsoft MVP, kilaMOMjaro, are putting together a blanket project to create blankets for donating to a local family shelter – Solid Ground Family Shelter. The blankets are super warm and cuddly (I have seen and felt them firsthand).

On Saturday the 20th of February anyone local (Seattle/Eastside) area can gather with us and donate their time to make the quilts for these children. If you can make it, awesome! Please stop by. If not, bummer, but you can also donate towards supplies. Click on the nifty graphic for more info and to donate directly to the cause. We all care and I am sure we can all find $10 to support a good cause. Contact GOFBlankets@gmail.com for more info.

Thx!

Is Natal All That Great?

xbox kingI was really excited when they announced Project Natal at E3. After Microsoft did those demos with the paint and everything, I was thinking “wow, this is cool, when is it out?” But after thinking about it and after completely losing my first article I wrote, I wondered  is it really all that great?

Are there any design problems?

  • Natal will not work with a projecter because the sensor has to be facing you.
  • If the Natal sensor uses a thermal sensor, what If a cat walks by you feet and makes it think you moved your foot or somthing?
  • Will body mass effect the responsiveness of the sensor?
  • Will it have trouble understanding people with speech problem?
  • If it breaks and you send it in, you can’t play any games that are made to work with Natal.

Here’s some other issues.

  • Who likes waving their hands in the air for hours?
  • Who wants to pay $40 to paint an elephant?
  • It better not turn on by itself as shown in the E3 video.

Remember those demos at E3? Those worked great but would you really play those for hours? And what about gamers?

Now honestly folks, I love the idea and I think it’ll be great, but these are just some things that Microsoft didn’t think about when designing this.

What About Tiger Woods PGA Tour?

Let me get one thing cleared up before I start writing this. The following is written just to clear things up about a videogame and has nothing to do with Tiger’s personal life.

tiger-woods-pga-tour-10As you’ve probably heard, all of Tiger’s sponsors are leaving him. But what about EA’s hit golf game Tiger Wood’s PGA Tour? With all that DLC bought and online points won, whats going to happen? I was really worried, that game’s one of my favorite sports game. With all the live weather and live golf tourneys, I was fearing we would lose all of that.

Well thank goodness good old Peter Moore answered our long awaited call yesterday. EA Sports will continue with the franchise. Here’s what Peter said on his blog:

By his own admission, he’s made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what’s happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history.

So there you go golf fans, the game will be continued.

Peggle On Your iPhone

peggleAs you know, unless your living under a rock, Peggle was a huge hit on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. I could only find one problem with Peggle, you couldn’t play it on the go. No worries though, Peggle is now on the iPhone so you can enjoy this great masterpiece wherever you go!

The game is great fun at a great price. The controls transferred  beautifully to the iPhone. I actually think the iPhone version has better controls at times!

Over all the game is great and is far worth the great price. If you have an iPhone I highly recommend it.

10 Most Influential Women in Gaming

trixie360Check out this awesome list by Trina (aka @gamingangel) at http://www.gamingangels.com. I think it is a well thought out very deserving group of women. As I was reading it I was hoping she would include a community manager and more specifically my favorite community manager Christa Phillips at Xbox.com (now with the aptly appropriate title Social Media Lead), and to my delight she was included!

Take a gander at the article yourself at: http://www.gamingangels.com/2009/12/the-ten-most-influential-women-in-games-over-the-last-10-years/
