Google is known for having special Google pictures for holidays and events. Well, today Google has a playable Pacman game on the site in the shape of Google. Yes, you heard me, you can actually play it. All the ghosts, the fruit, and everything is there. They even give you three lives. I’m guessing today is the only day you’ll get to play it so get playing. Also, if you get a gameover, there is a “insert coin” button by the search button. I thought that was a nice touch.
I think this has to be the coolest thing Google ever did on the homepage. So, get playing! What are you waiting for. The game’s on the Google homepage.

Graphics: The game is colorful and cute.

Game play: Wonderking is an online game where you can complete quests and explore the world with other Wonderking players from around the world. In the beginning you create and customize your character. You can level up your character by completing quests and fighting the many creatures in the game.

.

I did have a few problems with the game.
•The game takes hours to download
•I had the game freeze up on me in spots.
•Sometimes I felt like the directions for quests weren’t clear enough

But here are some good things about the game.
•good controls
•fun
•FREE!!!!!
•cool graphics
•overall, little lag
•works on almost every computer

So, what do I think about the game? It’s fun, addictive and cute. Should I get it? Sure, why not? It’s free.

As you know, Haiti just had a horrible earthquake that claimed the lives of millions and left the survivors homeless and injured. Well now this amazing game is doing an amazing thing.

Hello Kitty Online will have “Food for Friends 2.” This event lasts from January 21-30, 2010. When you play you earn donation points. The donation points will be added up and real money will be sent to Doctors Without Borders for aid in Haiti. This sounds like a great charity event, Hello Kitty and helping people? That’s the best combination EVER!

Well now you have a reason to join Hello Kitty Online. And remember to tell your friends your doing this not only because this game rocks, but to help survivors in Haiti.

But seriously, earthquakes stink so lets help the survivors of Haiti out by doing what we do best. By that of course I mean palying Hello Kitty Online.

Army of Two: The 40th Day is set for release on January 13, but until then, be sure to check out the Xbox Live Marketplace for the demo. Also for more information about this upcoming game, be sure to check out the press release and/or the Army of Two: The 40th Day website!

“Clean up” the mess you made and destroy the FLDSMDFR!

Breaking Points

In this wacky and fun family game, you play as Flint Lockwood as you try to save the planet from your invention; the FLDSMDFR. You go throughout town as you fight off mutated food enemies with your spiffy gadgets such as; the chopper, heat gun, the sucker, the fork-a-ma-jigger and punch gun. As you make your way through town, you have to avoid being hit by food falling from the sky and must solve little puzzles in order to advance in the game.

Tips & Tricks

Don’t’ run too quickly on the butter, or you will slide into a hot puddle of chili

Look at other locations first before going to your destination. You can always find hidden things.

Can’t get all food items to unlock a puzzle piece? Not to worry- get back to them once you have upgraded to level three on your gadgets.

My Thoughts

This is a kid game, so I knew not to expect too much out of it- it’s no Batman: Arkham Asylum. The main reason I played this game is because it is an achievement game! If you are all about achievements like I am, this game gives you a total of 25 achievements equaling to 1000 GS. Another nice thing is, this game can be done in five hours or less- so you will have your achievements and be done with the game in no time.

It is nice to step away from “hardcore” games and just have fun. I am kind of ashamed to say this, but there were a couple times that I had to actually think about how to get to the next destination. Of course after I got used to the game, it became easier to solve these mini puzzles. I blame it on me being tired (that’s my story and I am sticking to it).

1. According to Gearbox, the weapon count is over 17 million

2. The open world gameplay

3. The replay value

Now there are many more reasons to be picking up this game, but those are the three that really stick out for me. Now today is one of the few days that I am going to cut my post a little short, but that is because I will be playing Borderlands as much as I can today. Also, if you pick up the game too, be sure to send me an invite for co-op! Also, if you are not yet for sure about this game, be sure to check out the review over at IGN!

Today young girls everywhere can experience the joys and agony of being a teenage girl in love, lust, and hate without ever leaving their home or having any interaction with a member of the human race as VIVA MEDIA releases My Boyfriend for the PC.

Heralded as being an adventure game (for girls only!) the game encourages girls to imagine they are at a luxurious island resort with no ‘rents and just your BFF to keep you in line (or perhaps to encourage you to do just one more body shot). Ha ha.. just kidding about the body shots, there isn’t any alcohol involved, I don’t think…

But as every good girl knows, you must WIN the heart of the guy in order to MAKE him their b-friend. I am thinking there must be a lot of falsehoods, bra-stuffing, giggling, and having your BFF cheat with him behing your back, to set in the realism of this game. Otherwise it would just be LAME. Check out the press release below for more info on the game and all the system req’s.

The Breakdown

Control Detective Tapp, the protaganist from the original Saw movie, and help him escape from an asylum of horrors “prepared” by the Jigsaw killer!

The Important Stuff

The Saw franchise of movies and it’s particular style of goreporn has been shocking movie-goers since the original was released in 2004, and with the seventh entry into the franchise due in theatres sometime in 2010 it’s becoming a bit tired in my opinion. I just don’t see how they can keep dragging out the Jigsaw storyline much longer. With so many movies in the series already it is no surprise that someone decided to make a videogame spin-off, and thankfully Brash Entertainment decided to revist the first (and by far the best) film. Unfortunately Brash Entertainment was not able to complete the game. Their track record of crappy games based off movies had caught up to them, and on Nov. 14th, 2008 they closed up shop and went out of business (Thank god too! They were trying to develop games for Superman and The Flash!! *shudders*) Konami then aquired the rights a few weeks later and brought it’s knowledge of horror games to the table. With their experience from the Silent Hill franchise they made a few alterations to the work that Brash had started, and attempted to turn this title into something worth playing.

The game begins shortly after the events of the first movie and incorporates the characters from that film to tie up loose ends and explain the fate of certain people. Detective David Tapp was originally shot by Zep Hindle in the movie, and the Detective’s fate was never fully explained. In the game the Detective regains consciousness only to find himself in an abandoned insane asylum within one of Jigsaw’s trademark traps, the Jaw Splitter. It is explained that Jigsaw performed surgery on the Detective to remove the bullet, but in the process placed a key within his body. The Detective must escape the trap and make his way through the asylum to discover the identity of Jigsaw, while avoiding other prisoners within the asylum who’s only salvation is to kill you and aquire the key within your body!

Presented in a third-person perspective, you must control Detective Tapp through the asylum while avoiding traps and eliminating or avoiding enemies. The traps in the game are mostly repetitive, and the majority of them come in the form of tripwires which trigger shotgun blasts to your head. Needless to say, these instantly kill you. Other traps include rooms rigged with explosives, traps when opening certain doors (again blasting you with a shotgun to the dome), poisonous gas rooms and occasionally sliding through narrow spaces while avoiding swinging blades. Most of these traps can be avoided or shutdown through various puzzle based systems such as tapping the prompted button, re-routing power in fuse boxes (similar to Bioshock’s minigame), connecting steam valves, fishing through toilets full of hypodermic needles for a key and other methods. In typical Saw fashion you are also barefoot and must should navigate around broken glass on the ground to avoid taking damage.

Combat in the game consists mostly of melee attacks although you will sometimes find revolvers to dispatch your enemies with. Aside from regular punching attacks you can pick up things like broken pipes, crutches, scissors, scapels, mannequin arms and other items to deliver beatdowns to other unfortunate captives in the asylum. Pretty much all of these function in the exact same way, and all weapons can only be wielded a few times before they are damaged and no longer useable. At your disposal you have quick and heavy attacks, as well as a block feature which can allow you to deliver a fierce counterattack if timed properly. Throughout the game you will also find schematics to fabricate your own traps with items you discover, such as explosive or gas traps, and also re-arm the boobytraps you’ve disabled, which can help to kill your attackers.

Lighting also plays an important role in the game. While navigating the asylum you will find a few different ways to illuminate your surroundings. Shortly into the game you will find a lighter but you can also pick up things like a flashlight or a camera. These all work a bit differently, with the lighter giving off a soft glow for a short distance all around you, the flashlight illuminating a small cone of light in front of you and the camera using it’s flash feature to light up a large area for a very short period of time. Certain puzzles require you to turn off your light in order to discover the solution.

Tips & Tricks

Watch out for tripwires on the floor! Triggering one of these instantly kills you, but disarming them allows you to salvage parts to re-arm them. Luring enemies into these is a quick way to kill them.

Keep an eye on your weapon’s health. Weapons are everywhere so make sure they don’t break on you in the middle of combat!

Check every container possible for parts to build your own traps. These can be very effective.

If you know there is a room with a poison gas trap, heal yourself first. Your health goes down quickly in these rooms, and you’ll need all the time you can get to disarm the gas valves.

Sometimes jab punching an enemy to death by jamming on your quick attack button is easiest, but it’s usually more satisfying to stick a pair of scissors in their neck.

Reaction

This game didn’t get fantastic reviews, but quite honestly I felt it was a satisfying and enjoyable game. It’s not perfect by any means, but for me it captured the essence of the movies. The game is relatively short and can be completed in one or two days depending on your playtime and how quickly you run through the levels, but it’s the overall spookiness of the environment and how well it projects the sense of urgency to escape Jigsaw’s madness that makes the game worth playing.

The combat in the game has been declared by many to be “broken”, but I certainly didn’t feel it was atrocious. For one thing, it’s slow. Swinging your weapons can be frustrating and the hit detection isn’t always the best. I imagine that you could complete the whole game however with just your melee attacks. The reason I say this is because your punches are just so damn effective. You punch an enemy with a quick attack and they’re stunned for a moment, so basically you can just jab your way to freedom. Even while fighting against Pighead, who is pretty much the last “boss”, I gave up using weapons and traps and just jabbed him to death. This may be different on the harder difficulty, but I played through on Normal. So while punching is effective, it’s still a lot more satisfying to try to lure enemies into traps you’ve created or re-armed.

A lot of the puzzles in the game aren’t especially hard either, even though some of the solutions are random. The game is very linear too and frequently you’ll find what you need to solve a puzzle or pick a lock within close proximity. In my opinion this greatly decreases the replay value of the game because there really is no searching for the correct path. It’s hard to get lost, and it’s even harder to NOT find the item you’re looking for. It’s all practically right in front of you, and most likely within a nearby cabinet.

It’s worth noting that Tobin Bell reprises his role as the voice of Jigsaw. It’s great to hear the original actor’s voice throughout the game, and the random audio tapes that Jigsaw has left for you around the asylum only builds a sense of tension and really adds to the story. Danny Glover, who played Detective Tapp in the original movie, is notably absent. In his place Konami has added Earl Alexander to voice the protaganist. Earl is best known lately for his stellar voice acting as the voice of Louis in Valve’s zombie slaughterfest, Left 4 Dead. I was waiting the whole game for Tapp/Louis to find some pills, but sadly I did not.

Graphically the game is great. I didn’t experience any slowdowns to speak of and the framerate was nice and smooth. The asylum is appropriately freaky and dilapidated, and shuffling around barefoot with only a little bit of light to help see what is around you adds to the tension. You’ll pass by many other unfortunate victims of some of Jigsaw’s trademark traps and cringe when you see mangled bodies ripped apart by barb wire, etc. I also liked the differences between the items you can pick up to light your path. I honestly prefer the lighter even though it has a very small range of illumination. In my opinion though the camera was complete garbage to use and too disorienting. Feel free to try all three out yourselves but I’m pretty sure you’ll like the lighter the best too.

The game really has no replay value due to the linearness of it, but it does have extremely easy achievements. On my first playthrough I picked up 970/1000, only because I didn’t know how to stomp on enemies. I’d definitely recommend this game for a rental if you like horror games, or even if you just want to pad your gamerscore a bit. I quite honestly jumped a few times at getting killed instantly by a shotgun blast to the teeth because I missed seeing a tripwire on the floor, or because an enemy jumped out at me from around a corner. The game isn’t a summer blockbuster for sure, but what it lacks in combat mechanics is more than made up for with the rest of the whole package.
