Arcade Feed: Yo-Ho KaBlammo

This week in Xbox Live Arcade –

Yo-Ho KaBlammo is an amalgamation of mini games packed into a full XBLA title.  The catch is, the mini games are based on a few gameplay elements with the objectives changing in each of the 15 challenges that make up the game.

Let me break it down.  You can sail around, collect power-ups, kill your opponents by firing your side cannons, and collect treasure.  Mines are randomly placed throughout the map and are neutral until you sail your ship over them to claim them.  When an enemy sails over a claimed mine they take damage.  For one challenge you are required to be the first one to claim 50 mines, and in another you must kill your opponents 5 times before they kill you 5 times.  You may be required to kill them the most or get the most points in a challenge.  The objectives change, but the game remains the same.

Are there worse games out there? Yes.  I did enjoy some of it but I don’t see myself getting hooked on it.  It’s not a completely terrible game and it is easy to pick up play.  Although, justifying an 800 MS point price tag would be like giving medicine to the dead.  This game clearly belongs in the 400 point range.  If it were cheaper I would say give it a shot, but I’m gonna have to go with a “break it” on this one.  :(

Arcade Feed: Shadow Complex

This week in Xbox Live Arcade –

Shadow Complex is releasing on the XBLA this week.  It is the final game in the Summer of Arcade.  Which is kinda disappointing,  since it’s a reminder that summer is almost over.  However, it’s also exciting because it means Shadow Complex is releasing.  This game weighs in shy of a gig of HDD space but it’s worth every bit of room it takes up.  This game won quite a few awards at this years E3 Conference and it’s easy to see why.  The graphics and presentation are remeniscent of a last generation game and for an XBLA title, that’s a good thing.  Read the rest of this entry »

Arcade Feed: Trials HD

This week in Xbox Live Arcade –

Trials HD hits the Arcade this week and can be best described as endless frustration and fun, or for lack of a better term… funstration.  This is one of those games where you find yourself saying, “OOOOOHHHH I WAS SOOO CLOSE!”, then you fall back in your seat, sigh, lean forward and try again until you nail it.

In the Trials mode you can race against the clock on your way through the obstacle courses, being careful not to crash and burn.  If you don’t like timed events you can try your thumbs at the more unconventional skill based games where speed and finish times take a back seat, and concentration and control are the key.  Though both modes require you to anticipate the balance of your rider using the games’ incredible physics engine.

There are over 50 levels if you include the level editor where you can make your own tracks and challenge your friends.  Trials HD extensively tracks your progress and displays your friends’ records in the game so you know where you fall short.  Try all the tracks with different sized bikes and see which one will take you to the top of the leaderboards.
